If you're just now coming to this blog for the first time, or you need a refresher on our story, here are the basics...

We're Kristin (mom), Jeff (dad), and Jake (son, aka Cubby). Jeff started this blog back in January 2008 when we found out we were pregnant with the Cubby. It originally just had some musings about life and future parenthood.

That all changed in May 2008 when Kristin's water broke at just 25 weeks, and she was put on bedrest at Duke University Hospital. Little Cubby held on for two more weeks and was born on May 19, 2008 at 2 pounds (900 grams) and 13.5 inches long. This blog became our primary means of communicating with so many concerned family members and friends (and friends of friends and countless others who started praying for us and thinking about us). The blog also became an outlet for Jeff to write about his concerns and share Jake's story.

Jake was in the NICU for 87 days and came home on his due date - August 13, 2008 at 5 pounds and 18.5 inches long. He came home breathing and eating on his own and without any monitors. However, he was on six different medicines all on their own schedules, but he was down to just 2 medicines and a multi-vitamin within a few weeks. And before his first birthday he became completely med-free!

We have been incredibly lucky, and Jake seems to have no long-term health problems related to his prematurity. He is hitting all of his developmental milestone at his adjusted age level (or ahead). The blog postings have become far less frequent since he's been home, but we still try to update it now and then.
